The School Nurses of our local districts are the unsung heroes and tireless advocates for our children’s physical health and safety. With recent budget cuts, our nurses have done more with less, addressing issues far more complex than just Band-Aids, including childhood obesity and diabetics to teen pregnancy. The Nurses’ vital role in the Vision Screening includes scheduling and charting the results but most importantly to secure follow up treatment. Securing full exams and treatment of children identified is the purpose of the program. This requires many phone contacts, finding funding and sometimes actually taking the child to an appointment.
